Accommodation

Maputo is a tourist city and offers an amazing array of hotel options – from modern hotels to ultramodern facilities and more affordable rooming options.

The Organizers have made arrangements with Avenida Hotel (5star) for reduced rates for whatever type of room you prefer and   Turismo Hotel for shared student accommodation. In order to assist you with finding accommodation that suits your needs, conference organizers selected some hotels that can best suit your needs;

Maputo

The conference will be held in Maputo - Mozambique. Maputo is located in southern region of Africa. It borders South Africa (100 km) and Swaziland (80 km), where you can experience the natural beauties of the natural reserves of Kruger National Park (170 km from Maputo), in South Africa and Hlane game reserve in Swaziland (150 km). Maputo possesses paradisiacal beaches and islands (Inhaca and Ilha dos Portugueses), and game reserves.

The town is a mix of modern and ancient buildings. Maputo is 125 years old. It is a coastal city. It owns one of the most important harbours in the southern coast, the Maputo harbour. It has approximately 2000000 inhabitants.

Attractions

Maputo possesses two major poles of touristic attraction, the beaches and wildlife. The most important beaches are in Inhaca Island and Macaneta (30 km). Making a 120 km 4x4 journey to the south, you can experience the beaches of Ponta de Ouro and Ponta Malongane. Other accessible beaches from Maputo are Bilene (150 km), Zongoene (225 km) and Xai-Xai (220 km). In wildlife, apart from vicinity to the renowned Kruger National Park in South Africa, Maputo holds the Maputo Reserve, the elephant's reserve. Kudus, duikers, reedbucks can also be seen.

The city also offers historical sights like its cathedral, the city council, the iron house, the railway station, the central market and a number of museums. A visit to the fish market can be rewarded with Mozambican shellfish flavour.

Venue

The Joaquim Chissano International Conference Centre (JCICC) is deployed along the coastline in the beautiful Maputo City. It offers its users the possibility of contemplating the beautiful scenery of the ocean waters off the Maputo Bay. Specifically, the JCICC is located at Av. Marginal nr.4441 and their vicinity there are hotels and restaurants that specialize in making delicious & diverse meals, clinics, supermarkets, travel agencies, banks, exchange houses, among other facilities.

The JCICC is well located from strategic points of the city such as the airport, downtown, the CFM train station and the famous port. From Maputo International Airport only 15 minutes at most are required to get to the JCICC, while the City Centre and the CFM train station about 10 minutes are required. The average time for the leading hotels in the City is 5 minutes by car with the exception of the Southern Sun Hotel (5 minute walk) and the Radisson Hotel (2 minute walk).

Weather

Maputo has a tropical climate characterized by humidity and moderately high temperatures. July is particularly less humid and with mild temperatures. Climate pattern of Maputo in July is as follows:

How to get to Maputo

Entry Formalities (passport and visa)

Botswana, Malawi, Mauritius, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe citizens are exempt for visa application. Visas can be obtained in Mozambique embassies or consulates, requiring two passport size photographs and the necessary visa fee. Passport must have a minimum of six months of validity. They can also be obtained at international airports and border posts. VeGe Travel & Services is the official travel agency for the conference.

As the 4th SEANAC Conference is sponsored by IUPAC, the organizing committee is committed to observe the following statement:

"IUPAC sponsorship implies that entry visas will be granted to all bona fide chemists, provided application is made not less than six months in advance. If a visa is not granted two months before the meeting, the Organizers and the IUPAC Secretariat should be notified by the applicant."

Currency

Mozambican currency is the Metical, which is divided into 100 cents. There are 5, 10, 20, 50, 200, 500 and 1000 metical bills.
